Week 46
Zonk thinks, "I wonder if your generation runs faster than the previous one..."
sketch stolen from Iolaus
Zonk is back! Indeed! This old sorceror was heard and felt throughout Noid Cavern some days ago. And with Zonk came his pets of course. The Black Widow that will, or used to at least - spread terror and destruction from Noids to town. Zonk is rumoured to be old, as old as the island itself. The exiles first encounter with him was when he cursed Argh´s moonstone before the ripture war. Argh was then the most powerful healer in the lands, and I guess Zonk thought that by hurting him, exiles would be vulnerable. He is always courteous, do not like us bleeding on his floor, is overly tidy, and has a habit of chaining fallen exiles around to keep him company. I wonder how he will react when he discovers that Puddleby is much stronger than before, and that his pets are no longer the threat they used to be.
LIFE has had a long trip to the Foothills recently, where Kestral found a new path that lead to a cave. Sor was able to open it and inside there were yet more paths, and Kiriel d´Sol stayed awake a whole night looking at a path until she could open it. And on the other side, a forest! It seems LIFE has reached their goal, to find the way beyond the Foothills. Congratulations and a most heartfelt thanks to all of you for your persistence and bravery. It´s been a long road for Puddleby. Almost 8 years since we discovered Snaggy. And many hours spent on the Purple Gate we later referred to as Wisher´s Gate. It´s been 4 years since we first discovered the Dred Passage. And that search took a year. Then, by the sacrifice of many we were able to map the Passage and find the way through to Foothills. Then we map the passes over several months. It´s been a long road indeed. And now it seems we are faced with an even greater challenge. A group of LIFE met up with eachother there in the forest, and wanted to try to go eastwards. Scouts had told them that there were dredlocks there, and large red orgas. They set up plans and tactics, and dived in. 30 entered, 6 came back. There were loads of Large Death Vermine, Red Orgas, and many, many Dredlocks.
I was hunting in Valley at the time, sending small letters and thoughts to the ones in Foothills. When we heard that they were being teleported to Orga Village, many exiles gathered for a rescue. With Gurgi as leader we quickly ran through Orga Outback and managed to take over the Village and grab the fallen heroes on chains.
Quite the load... and even more were teleported while we waited. Back in town I doubt a single healer was available anywhere else than in townsquare. Many of the heroes had been really bolted to oblivion, and required a really massive healing force. After a long time and a real investment from the healers, all were finally able to move around again.
And now the next chapter begins. To conquer and map the eastern part beyond the passes.
Week 47
Day 64 of Winter, 544 a large group of exiles were able to go east of Kestral´s passage and into the newfound Dredwood and explore. They found many new areas and suspicious places for illusions and paths. Phelps has written an account of their findings.
I had the chance to go with them some days later and was able to see the places first hand. Koric and Lundar have written great tales from our adventures. My trip ended in a heap though as a small group tried to attack the fort near the waterfall, and were wiped out. I managed to run into the cave east, drinking Tykan potions on the way. Inside I was met with a pack of 15 Death Vermines, and after I had dispatched them, their bigger brothers - the Large Death vermine appeared. Bleeding from many wounds, 6 of those were too much for me and I fell. I departed, since I knew I wouldn´t be chanted to Orga Village in the cave. I heard most of my fellow adventurers were rescued though. Since then I have been contemplating in the library, going through old notes and scrolls, trying to make sense of what I saw.
I remember our talk with Katpus when we first entered Foothills. We had a long nice chat up there in the cave he liked to call home. Now, after seeing some of the places he mentioned back then, there are some things that stand out.
We have been told by the Marsh Hermit that Trillbane had a library, and that he didn´t care much for Midnight Wendeckas. Katpus told us that day that "Trillbane used to live there. There was a library here. Underground, beyond the passes. At one time, I suspect it was not underground. But with the way the passes have shifted...." I think the above sketch shows the remains of what once was Trillbane´s library. There seemed to have been a cave in , and the Arachnoids have taken over. He probably was forced to move elsewhere then. Or perhaps he was captured by the Orga? One of our tasks should be to get inside there and clear the place up a bit. I would certainly like to peruse the book Trillbane left behind. Isn´t that a sketch of a tree on the page there? Maybe it can tell us more about the forest to the east. Pathfinders have scanned the snells around the cave but came up empty so far. Maybe we need to hire some peasants from town to dig for us... Another option might be that there is way from the passes directly to the room there. Seems to be a patch southish there.
There is still a cave in the passes that is blocked. I would think that the path Kestral discovered leads inside the blocked cave to the south. The blocked cave to the north might lead to this place. Perhaps. I am getting dizzy thinking about all these things...
Katpus told us of the Orga Stronghold to the east of the passes. He said: The plans for the catapult is guarded by strong and clever orgas. Beware of the Arachnoids. Beyond the passes there are many orga.
Nothing I have seen so far indicates a Stronghold. What this place sketched here seems like, is an outpost. A guard zone. And beyond the waterfall there is a path that leads to Arachnoids, Malachite and Olive. Sadly, exiles haven´t been able to secure the cave long enough for pathfinders and mystics to scan for illusions and paths. There is another little thing here. The statue of an orga, an altar. There is one exactly the same in Orga Village. So - add Outpost to an Orga Altar/statue thing , throw in the Arachnoids as Katpus was talking about - and you have the way further east to the Orga Stronghold.... It just have to be somewhere inside that cave...
I think we haven´t reached the east side of the island. There is still too much rock and mountains here. Seems more like a valley in the Foothills than anything else. If you fall and your spirit starts to drift other exiles can sense you being fallen in Snagglewood. And we haven´t seen any sign of the stronger and more clever orgas. I have met some of them, ages ago - when I was still rather weak. I am quite certain that these are the ones that inhabit the Orga Stronghold. I am also sure we might find that huuuge greeen one they call Bartok. This is the way he fled after his defeat in the meadow. This is the road the orgas took when they stole the catapult. And we are pushing after him and taking the war to him for a change. Soon, maybe she will call...
Falinea watches for the evil both of the orga, and of the power behind the destruction of her homeland and the Rip Wars of Puddleby. During those wars she discovered rip portals in the sky, and fought the Undine of the Air to heal those rips. Now that the land is clear of this evil, she searches for the orga village she senses hidden in the mountains east of their camp. Many exiles have offered help in this quest, which she will call upon once the vile place is discovered!
In other news, Callia mentioned something quite disturbing about some ether readings:
Wangah Rah has encounted very aberant readings in the marsh, specifically in the Dead Tree marsh (where the muddy shirts are sold) and in the Old Cemetary. Ethereal Slugs have been sighted in both these locations, sometimes in large concentrations. I believe that this is potentially quite dangerous, and should be watched.
While possibily unrealated, I will remind other Ripture war survivors that these two snells were places where Tears formed early in the war, Tears which matured successfully.
Indigo is busy gathering exiles for attacks against the Darshaks. Combined with the rumours of darshaks gathering in a location not yet known to us, and the recent destruction of the Nox Sorora Chapterhouse - I can hear the storm is brewing at a distance.
To the Lady Babajaga,
I heard today that members of LIFE came upon a band of darshak sailors in
the foothills. This is a most disturbing discovery! In talking with one who
has traveled there recently, I came upon a theory that could change the
face of our conflict with the orga and the darshak.
The darshak have been said to seek the powerful forces of nature that allow
those living in the Lok'Grotons to fall rather than die. As this member of
LIFE and I spoke of the darshak encounter in the foothills, I remembered
that the orga had once stolen the altar from Puddleby. A strong and
frightening possibility came to my mind: Did the darshak forge an alliance
with the orga in order to have the altar stolen and examined?
We must act swiftly to determine if the darshak and the orga are in such an
alliance. I ask you, and any others who are willing, to organize forces,
seek information, and fight for the continued safety of those who live in
the Lok'Grotons.
Sincerely,
Indigo of Mer d'Syl
Week 48
Where to begin..
So soon after the Separ touching me, I can still hear the robed one in my head - while on Noth - ordering me, asking - bidding. It´s been so many years now, so many years in his service. So many schemes, so much manipulation, and lies. So many traps made for exiles that trusted me. And all the time the presence of Him and It. In whatever I was doing, wherever I was.
There were times when his influence wasn´t so strong. Times were he hid, times when I could not feel his presence so strongly. But I always knew he would come back and crave once more. The hidden "me" inside me, that looked on my actions with disgust. 6 years did he take . 6 full years. And he took my beloved too, and I was his tool.
I think I will begin with the ending. There is too much to tell, and I might as well start there.
When I heard of Kala I had only one thought in my mind. To prevent Tessa from talking to her, and to find a way to grab the Separ. When that failed, and the Separ was lose - I had to run to Noth. Only place where I felt safe - and there I could also serve him. I laughed when exiles avoided sunstoning publically about their whereabouts. And who had the Separ. Qual knew them both, as his servants were among them, busy telling him all he needed to know. As I did.
Caddrel having the Separ was a large threat to me. In his now cured state, he still followed his own motives. And "curing" me was not one of them, as much as "controlling" me was. I tried to make a deal with him on Centaur and on Ash. The Separ for my amulet I wear around my neck. The amulet that has been with me since I ever came to this island. I knew I would be lost then, but at least I could give the Separ to Him.
In Caddrel´s eager to control me, he threatened me so much that I found out the Separ in other exiles hands would be better. I could avoid those more easily. I asked for help, and Elenis came with other exiles. I fled Ash, landed on TI and ran as fast as I could with Caddrel and Elenis and others in my heels. I made a turn down south again, wanting to slip off the island and hide somewhere on the main island while I could convince Elenis to grab the Separ. In my turn however, I stumbled upon Caddrel - who held the Separ. Irony over irony - I was free! Freed by the one who handed me over to Qual 6 years ago. Freed, not because he wanted to help me - but because he tripped in his own motives..
And then we were able to hunt down the servants, those that still did Qual´s bidding. And we could hear Him moan and wince in pain
over Sunstone. One after another of his servants were touched by the Separ. Thuja, J´jh - and we cornered Malkor on east farms.
There are more servants out there. We are not yet done. And the Dark Bubbling needs to be destroyed for good.
But I think I will rest for awhile now. I have still nightmares, dreams about this hooded figure. And a terrible skin condition that needs to be cured as well. And a Knight to talk to, openly - for the first time in 6 years. There are many stories to be told, but that has to wait for another day.
Kala Sahar says, "I need a sample of the fluid to make ready the separ.
Kala Sahar shows her wood and crystal tool to everyone.
Well there is only one, passed from keeper to keeper to hunt the beast,
but now it is time to pass it to a new keeper.
Yes IT the dark Bubbling. When it arrives one of my order will try to go and give the Separ.
In most cases the arrival of the separ drives off the dark bubbling...
but I fear here things may be different. The dark bubbling seems to have learned that it can
save and use the minds of some of those it infects. IT is no smarter then the myrm queen
... But this talk of Qual...The separ can cure those infected but not fully changed. So exiles with
lumps and growths can be saved. Those who have changed in apperance can not be saved... i.e. 'Noth.
Qual seems to be trapped IN MID-CHANGE. I'm not sure if he can be cured. When folks change to the
new form they go crazy and become mindless. Qual is not mindless, so he must not be fully changed.
Once you cure the exiles you may well wish to try to cut him off from the dark bubbling.
What we need now is to stop the spread. If it spreads the dark Bubbling will feel safe and stay
When those infected are near the separ their disease will act up as the dew screem in fear.
The Separ is not a weapon, it is a tool of healing. If the dark bubbling move on you must
follow it and give the separ to the locals whom it starts to attack, just as i come to give it to you.
You are the 267 holder. If the dark Bubbling does not flee keep the separ and battle its dark ways.
You may pass the separ to any you feel worthy to carry it.
Two more raids have been made to Dredwood, but none have so far been able to open the path through the waterfall since that first day. Many fallens have been teleported and rescued from Orga Village. LIFE is now busy naming the different places, so far they have Redwood Grove for the tree-infested snell north of the entrance, they have Malachite Lair for the cave through the waterfall, and Orga Outpost for the place behind the barricades. Suggestion for the entrance snell is Camp Dred.
Robin Greyhawk has been experimenting with the Strange Stone, and recently got a new one in a successfull Full Moon Orga Camp raid. He has written an account of his findings.
Spring has finally arrived, and we were looking forward to once again dare the dangers on Kismia´s Isle. Last time PTF was there, we ended up in quite the predicament. This time around we had planned a short trip, and were out before the Sun set. We had some great fun ice-skating in the glacier, we had some ambushes of angry kitties - but no way near our last experience.
I have never gone to a clanhunt other than those of RQ´s, so when I had the chance to join RC I grabbed it gladly. I was really excited about seeing how other clans managed their zodiacly gatherings and hunts. My experience with RC wasn´t that different from RQ though. Although they did manage to meet at the mushroom without any casualties, and survived the first snell in valley. After that it was very much the same... Lots of talking, lots of running around waving and talking, lots and lots and lots of puns - oof my ears! , and the complete disaster followed by the "toggle town and get help!" is very much in line with what I am used to from RQ. It was still an interesting and fun adventure, but I think next time I´ll put some kudzu in my ears...
Week 49
Our goals were : To keep the trust and friendship from exiles, (but to betray them in secrecy) to plant a spore inside the Castle on Noth if we ever got inside, to search for the Separ and to spy on others that also searched, and to continue to prepare exiles for the first and second dew implant. The servants had two dews. The first one down the throat was just a preparation for the second one. That was the lump. When we had two we had a growth. And implanting the second one required luring an exile to a place where we could be alone, and notify Qual so he could come and fence them in and implant the second dew into their neck. Yes. Neck. At first there were only Sylvans the dew worked on, then humans I think. Then we had to give Qual a number of Thooms to try it on. ( Yes, Merlisk and K´pyn - you were our first targets...) The first dew had to stay inside the exile for a time, before we could plant the second one. So, we kept a list of who was in the first stage and how far they were so to speak. It was a very time consuming process, but we did manage to trap a dozen or so exiles, and get them to the second stage before Qual left us for so long. The final stage is.. well... you can see the final stage on Noth.....
We met our Master in the backalleys of Puddleby and got our orders. Places where not many go. Like the cellar in the Clan House, or a hut on Southwest beach. Yes, he was there - in Puddleby, among you all. The only places he couldn´t enter it seemed was Gaia´s Temple and the temple in town. While the danger was always there for us to be spotted, and He to be spotted - it happened only twice. Newton came in on the southwest beach hut once, and we worked very hard afterwards to try and explain why a group of exiles would meet Qual there. He pretended to believe us, which was as well - as else I am sure we would have done something horrible. What he told, or if he told - I don´t know.
There are many wrongs to be done right, many lies and betrayals. But the one that haunts me in my dreams, is when I betrayed my own love, the Knight Sleipnir. Ironically, he betrayed me first.
To tell this tale, I need to take you back many many years. To the year of 539 I think it was. If J´nder and J´jjh remembers, this was the time you helped me come back to my senses. Or, as you thought were my senses. In reality, it was the last of *me* that left.
To begin with the beginning... At that time, I was not fully "his". The part that was left, was the love Sleipnir and I shared. And as long as this remained, I would never be fully "his". Love can move mountains you know, and make powerful wards. Caddrel suspected this, and wanted to remove the last bit that still was free. And he knew just how he could do that. He set up a trap for Sleipnir, with the help of Malkor and Althea. (Who both then were Qual´s servants) Caddrel set up a meeting with me, alone, in the Campfire in east forest. Then Althea and Malkor sowed doubt in Sleipnir´s mind about the intention of this meeting. And the Knight rushed over, only to see Caddrel split naked - as Caddrel had gotten word from those following the Knight and dropped his clothes just before the Knight rushed in. I wasn´t afraid, as I was sure the Knight could see through the deception and deceit. I was wrong, so wrong. Not only did the Knight believe them, he acted as though the only thing that mattered was how his honour had been tainted. I fainted in town square, lost my memory and didn´t get it back for a long time - was close to travel to Purgatory and get lost there. Not only was his action devastating under normal circumstances, it erased the line I had to the "self". In reality it was as if he had given me to Qual himself. Sleipnir started drinking then, put on a cloak - and drowned himself in selfpity in town.
Something woke him up though, what I don´t know. He started to ask questions, he started to poke around. He organized tours to speak with Votenkath. He got help and sympathy from other exiles, and they started to listen to him. Listen to his theories about a dark plot by the Wizard on Noth. And he was gaining self-confidence and credibility. We couldn´t ignore that. We, the servants, felt threatened so we had to act. And act we did. With the help of the trust we had still from other exiles, we met up with many in the zodiacs that came. Malkor, Althea and I explained to everyone how Sleipnir was driven by jealousy, and that they shouldn´t take his rantings as truth - but instead help him come to terms with himself. I have learned a lot about lies in these years. The best lie is the one closest to the truth. And this was, so Sleipnir soon found himself alone and laughed at, unable to convince the majority of Puddleby that there was indeed a threat coming from Noth. And his voice silenced. To make sure it was silenced for good though.. we needed to make him one of us. He had already been dewed once, we just looked for the right opportunity.
And while I was on Noth, the opportunity came. Sleipnir wanted to hand me a gift, and at the same time I sensed that my Master then was roaming Noth. I told him I had a gift for him too. But he needed to come to Noth to receive it, as I was .. busy. He came, and with the help of Thuja that led the other hunters away, I got Sleipnir alone in a hut in Noth town. And handed him over to Qual himself...
Week 01
Day 59 of Summer, 544.
Lots of time spent chasing rats in the library, contemplating my past and present. My skin is now back to normal. Tessa said it was necrosis - but a salve Coriakin made helped a great deal. I am still waiting for another from Azael, who seems to have forgiven me, sort of.. but not yet fully convinced I am not going to have him trapped, killed and otherwise tortured. Ah well, time will hopefully heal all wounds. On a related note, Puddleby seems to have great tolerance - or maybe it´s naiveté, as not so many have muttered any doubts regarding us that have been Qual´s servants for so long. We are "back in the flock" so to speak - no questions asked. Before Tharloch left the lands, he refused to go to Dal´Noth with me, which I can very well understand. Merlisk has uttered some doubts, but overall - it seems I am getting away with all the crimes I did in my servant state. And .. well, good is that. But it does make me wonder though, if not Puddleby is too fast on the trust side of things. Not that I personally have anything more to hide. But - in the more general perspective. I think I am going to be more vigilant from now on. On yet another related note, why is it that so many still trust a family that uses sylvan skin to write on?!?!?! "Cause Tenebrion/Umbrion says so" is NOT a valid response or reason in my ears... They are, as we all are - driven by motives we do not yet fully understand. To even think that they always tell the truth can prove to be dangerous.
My few trips outside the library has been eventful though. As all the other reporters have written about in detail, but I´ll add my view on things. When I woke up in library one day, I was immediately attacked by several sunstone messages warning me to step outside the library without a way to run. It seemed the Greymyrs had woke up and was wandering the streets of Puddleby. And not normal ones, not those I for a time have been soloing in GMV, oh no. These were pretty tough ones, and in those cases - we are yelling for the boosters.
Zorton and Nevyn being the most skilled boosters in the lands, they were used heavily. Drablak boosted as well, but while his boosts usually are enough to give us the edge we need - this time around we needed some more.
Somehow I ended up with some exiles in SDC doing their usual hunt, and since that is one of my objectives these days - experience other clan´s hunts - I went with them. I think I ended up with them after escorting a pathfinder to Bones. They were testing their abilities in Hatreds Hollow. A good place to test anything that is. I do love what that place does to my hair. We managed to get through , with a scream and some wounds. Not being the most powerful group who have hunted the outback, we still wanted to try it out.
Healing up after a "situation". The thing about Outback is, that oddly the locks there do not pose the biggest threat. The big red orgas do, thrown in with death vermine and spites. The combination can be healer killers. Which is why experienced groups never run after the lock first, but rather clean the area of roaming beasties and BRO while staying tight - and then go after the locks. Any healer capable of surviving Hatreds Hollow can rod one single lock with both her arms on her back. Even a fighter can. With Rodnus, or even without. Another thing about charging the locks first is that the group is spread out. In Outback that can be disaster.
I had a more recent run in Outback just the other day. Sadly, I realized that I am growing - as I merely "kill" the Orga Wraths now. I have been living in Puddleby for 12 years, but it still amazes me that I´m growing such in skill. For almost a year I have been soloing the GMV, killing of Greymyrs and wendeckas, sometimes 4 myrs at once. Dodging and dancing and running. Not so much worth in lessons, but challenging and fun when I can´t seem to get to the more far away places. Now the passes have shifted around, probably due to all the earth quakes - and the vermines have found their way in. I hate vermines, can´t stand the things. Loathe them. I have tried to solo GMV after the change, but all the vermine, rat, bloodhawk killing gets very tedious. Maybe I could train with the crazy hermit and solo the west part of GMV. Not that I learn anything from the wendies there, but I need some training in pebble avoidance. Still testing for the sixth circle, and I´ll probably still be testing a year from now. In a small space as the testing area is, my dodging and dancing skill is for naught. Combined with my usual bad luck and Slyph that applies glue to my shoes secretly at my locker, I don´t stand much of a chance. Todays test was very typical in that regard. I avoid the first pebbles, kill one wendie and the wrath, and I´m pretty healthy (as I have to be when I face the Sasquatch) Going for the next wendie, moving around to face it so I can see when it will throw a pebble - and the silly beastie gets 4 free hits at me, and then a pebble I don´t see coming while my shoes are glued to the floor. It was only a matter of time before the next lucky hit would throw me down. Sigh. I have found out I can´t move about much though, I just pile them all up. The first tests I made I was running all over the place, and getting hit and pebbled and whatnot. I don´t really like just training merely for tests. There are skills I need out there in the lands that are more valuable to me. I guess I have to swallow my pride and see youngins pass the test before I do, as I did on the fourth circle test. I can still get my revenge in the arena......
Another skill I would like to learn is the mastering of planting Zu. Not the farming of them, but the tactical use of them. I was with a group in the valley recently, and we barely managed to get past the first cave. Some of the beetles seemed to be full of.. something, and had a bite that reminded me more of a Frenzie than an ordinary beetle. Being the one with the highest defense, I volunteered to do some tactical zuing. While Kojiro told me I had done well, I am really not sure if he just said that to be nice, or if I really had done well. See, after I was done, the whole cave reminded us more of a Zu farm than a hunting ground, it was zu all over the place.. .. It served it´s purpose though, as we could concentrate more on the harder beetles. Some snells east we met a huge pack of Sasquatches, I panicked and ran the wrong way - and met some hungry cobras. Thankfully, not all in the group were being as silly, and we managed to recover from that. It was only one run through the valley, but that run took several hours. Rather a fun and challenging hunt, and what´s best- it didn´t take days.
My recent rescue in Dark Chamber did however take days. Or at least one and a half.
You feel the darkness of this place thru your bones.
Indeed we did... It started after some Scarmis had taken over Ash Island, probably pouring out from the scarmis pen. I have no idea why, but during that battle Cody went into Dark Chamber and fell there. Some said he ran from the scarmis pack, but a few followed him inside. Ledward Vicious ran in and went down too. And the victorious scarmis killers gathered in the tree to save them. We got Ledward pretty fast, but Cody was far in, and there were these really strong wraiths, greater wraiths and wailing spirits in the way. The battle went on, and on and on. We didn´t make much progress at first, unable to kill the strong ones, and many exiles unwilling to do the necessary - fall to trap them in - part. Then Aldernon from the Nacerean Order came - and we could finally get them off our backs. I was able to luckhit a few, and could to my great surprise sense that I had killed a faithless, vanquished an ordinary wraith and a greater wraith. And a death furie. I haven´t killed a faithless in years, and I usually slaughter ordinary wraiths, death furies and greater wraiths. Whatever and wherever they draw their newfound strength from, it sure has to be something powerful. With Klur and Tara as rod, and me as an "archiver of beasties to Aldernon" - meaning I was just standing and looking at them, bricking and whiffing some - and the rest of the team whiffing, bricking, killing , horusing, chaining, sandbag dutying, and or healing away while Aldernon killed the nasty ones, we were making progress. All the while Callus was chaining and muttering and sputtering in his usual courteous way, and dreaming about Beer no doubt. The sketch is from one of the lesser luckier moments where we were a bit overwhelmed, and decided to retreat to the tree and heal up.
Then disaster struck, as the blue scarmis was basically a GD in disguise, and fell all with a single bite. Which is rather odd, considering I don´t recollect meeting anything like that outside on Ash while we were fighting many more. My theory is that when they went inside the Dark Chamber, they too got the powers that seems to fill the place. We need to find a switch and turn it off...
After a time, the situation looked like this.... There are some standing exiles you can´t see though - and they were able to slowly get some up, Thuja bricked the Scarmis Warrior and Aldernon and fighters slayed the thing. The Liche was Thank Gaia just an ordinary one and went down quick. Then we could move away from the entrance, we hadn´t been able to for almost a day. Near the entrance to the pentagram room we met more of the powerful undines, and Aldernon - who was on his way back to the library, came back thankfully. We couldn´t have made it without him. Garibaldi, another from the Nacerean Order also was seen in DC this night. We need an army of those, so much is clear... After some falling, chaining and refalling of the lurers from the pentagram room, we had killed enough to enter. Some daring chainruns for the rest of the fallens, and we could exit Dark Chamber. For Dandelion, Ledward Vicious and myself - it had been over a PT day.
A warning dear reader. Don´t go and fall in Dark Chamber. After that experience I doubt your chances of a rescue is very high...
I had read so much about the Scarmis Pen in the library, and the newfound Keep - I just had to go there myself. From visionstones and scrolls, there seemed to be a verminehole south of the pen where one could enter the pen itself. And from there run to the plane through the skulls. That was my intention that day. It turned out otherwise. First off, there were many scarmis outside the pen, and I went down. Robin poor hu man departed and gathered a rescue for the foolish one. Koric with crew came and together we could dispatch the roaming scarmis. Yor came too, and we both wanted to take our chances with a visionstone in hand. I tried to get inside the pen, but the verminehole wasn´t there anymore, so both Yor and I headed down through this Scarmis pit. We ended up in a cave, under Ash. Virginland, unexplored. Yay! Both were convinced this was the entrance to the keep above, but as the rescuegroup came and cleared it - we could see that it was just a small cave. If you walk close to the trees surrounding the pen, you can see there are other scarmis pits just outside. But no way as of yet to get inside the pen again. There must be another entrance to the plane though, somewhere else. And the scarmis pen seems to be the exit, as you run through the skulls and end up in the pen - and then you can head down into the cave and up again and be outside the pen.
I really, really want to go to Ethereal Plane and the tower - as I think many answers can be found there. But getting a group there strong enough to survive and skilled/lucky/awake enough not to screw up our chances, is difficult. I saw a visionstone from the recent tour there, made by Jeanne. It shows a group in total control, until some exiles pops east and comes back again - with a whole slew of monsters in their heels. It´s not that the place is untakeable, the group needs to be big and skilled, and able to work together. All qualities that are hard to find and get together at the same time.
Regarding this new plane, I stole a sketch from Lundar´s collected visionstones of the first run.
A square made of skulls with a Kyuem in the middle. This is not the ethereal plane we are used to see. It´s either another part of the ethereal plane, or a new part of the planes altogether. While the theory most seems to be agreeing on is that it´s another part of the ethereal plane, no positive confirmation, as a mystic reading - has taken place. Which is why I wanted to go there, and if I fell - my intention was to lay there long enough so I and others could sense my whereabouts. That, or we find the entrance and secure the area and a mystic makes a reading. Rincewind told me that the mystics now can´t use the skristal on plane travelers, even exiles on Noth. They just get the obscure message "On the planet" then. Very sad. Very sad indeed. The reading was very useful when we were on new places. Especially since not all mystic explorers are skilled in the location arts, and many of those not even available when I am out and about.
Kirth Gersen could tell me about Cimmbrion being sensed in the lands, and an Ice Portal on TK spewing out Ice creatures from Ethereal Plane, wreaking Havoc on Tenebrion´s Isle. Apparently Cimmbrion was on top of Tenebrion´s tower, but didn´t feel much like talking. Kirth had an attack of narcolepsi while I was talking with him, which is so often seen in the lands, so I couldn´t get more out of him. But I am sure it will be in his journal soon. With visionstones, hopefully. Not only did Cimmbrion use ice/water magic - but fire as well.
The Slyphonics will be performing their first opera in the
coming months, and YOU could be a part of it. If you like to act
or sing, and want to be involved in a huge production, then
consider playing a part.
Right now I'm looking for names of exiles that might be
interested, so that when the time comes to fill parts, we have
some people to contact. We would need the name of the exile
interested, and a mailing address to contact them by.
If you are not interested yourself, but know someone that
might be, please mention this note to them. If you are new to
Puddleby, please know that we want you to participate as well.
This production is for new folks as much as it is for veterans.
Don't be shy about inquiring.
(Our performance will necessarily rely on the use of macros.
If you are not adept at writing macros, don't let this stop you--
all macros will be written for you, and help will be available to
set them up. They'll be very easy to run.)
Please feel free to contact me.
