Greetings all.
In order to understand why I tricked Chum during the Beer Duel- you all need to know a piece of history.
----
My first dealing with Chum was The Courteous scroll to Smelly Village. Remember that one? A group of exiles valiantly and courteously wanted to have tea with the Tr´ool Chief, in order to tighten the bonds and ensure understanding and peace between Puddleby and the Tr´ools. What happens is a disaster. The South Forest was filled with Zerks, Boloks, Huge crawlers etc. And after a time it became filled with the corpses of exiles. Rescue party upon rescue party fell too. In the middle of this carnage walks a spot-shirted one, a gloating and martini-drinking one. Indeed. Chum.
My second meeting was after I had been called to jail to help. There seemed to be a Necromancer in a cell, summoning many undine inside. In the middle of this chaos was Chum, of course. he challenged me to go inside the cell, and kill the Necromancer. Seeing that the Necromancer had summoned a lot inisde the tiny cell, I knew it would be almost impossible to get to it - and kill it. I knew I would fail, but Chum had challenged me, a warrior, I had to try even if it would mean I would fall. So I said yes, and Chum spoke to the deputy to let me in. And yes, I lasted a while, but the Necro got the best of me. On the floor there in the cell, with hooded corpses trampling all over me, I realized that Chum wasn´t finished. He wanted to torment me more. He quickly ran for the entrance, leaving me there with the company of some good exiles that tried to cheer me up. After two hours he returned, saying he was going to help me. He took the deputy away from the exiles there, and they were whispering up in a corner. Chum came back and told me that the deputy didn´t have any record of me being there in the first place, so naturally - she couldn´t let me out. I simply wasn´t there! What kind of deal Chum made with the deputy I will never know. Nor do I really want to know.. After being hard-pressed from the kind exiles in the jail, Chum helped me out. If they hadn´t been there, I am sure I would still decorate the jailcell floor.
After this incident my beloved and I decided it was time for a little prank on Chum´s expense. Secretly we borrowed some martinis from behind the counter at the inn. We then added some herbs that supposedly would change the teint of Chum´s skin. Nothing dangerous at all, just an innocent prank. My beloved gave the martinis back to Chum. But, enraged with the loan, Chum made Gumdar the innkeeper charge my beloved for simple theft! He of course knew how much this would mean to my beloved, who promptly ran down south in sorrow and despair - and fell to a large sand wurm. Sleinir, the Noble Knight - charged of theft! He couldn´t endure this of course, and promptly left RQ and the Orger of true and gentle Knighthood. And after a short and hot dispute, he left me - and went up to the lake to live there. It was only during the Feast of tsrinn my beloved and me were able to come back together again. Never have the trickery and evil schemes of Chum had larger consequenses than this one.
So, after this piece of imformation, are you surprised I made my own preparations for the beer duel? Knowing Chum, I was sure he had a card up his sleeve.
To win or lose didn´t mean anything to me. And even if I won, the victory itself was no victory to me. The second victory however, to see Chum realize he had been tricked, was my goal. Never have revenge tasted sweeter, never have I been more proud of myself - as when I saw Chum´s face turn red with anger in the moment he knew..
Even when he slapped me down to low red near Nu´ss afterwards, I didn´t lose that feeling. So much for the peace-loving one by the way..
Was I in wrong to try and trick one that so many times has crossed my path and made huge impact on my happiness in the lands?
I still view myself as honorable. Standing up against one that is known for his trickery and deceit is a honorable action.
